Why today, November 1st? The day after Halloween, that is why. All that candy, all that fun. We are not going to tell you to not enjoy yourself, but please, for the sake of your teeth, brush those teeth. Of course, it is always important for good dental hygiene, but let us remind you today, the day after all that candy consumption, is the importance of good tooth brushing.
- The ADA recommends brushing 2 times a day for 2 minutes with a soft-bristled brush.
- Brushes should be replaced every 3-4 months or when visibly frayed. Some brushes even have color indicators (check the packaging) to remind you when it is time to get a new brush.
- Products with the ADA Seal of Acceptance are always a safe choice. A product earns the seal by providing scientific evidence that demonstrates safety and efficacy, which the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs carefully evaluates according to objective requirements.
- Electric or manual? Either works well when used properly. However, an electric toothbrush will help you do a better job.
- You must brush all your teeth and every side of the tooth. That means the biting surface, the side that faces the cheek/lips and the side that faces the tongue. Don’t forget a light brush of the tongue helps get rid of plaque and odors too.
