Bringing your child in for regular dental checkups can prevent any unwanted dental issues. When left untreated, dental decay can lead to speaking, eating, and learning problems.
Here are some great tips to help prevent dental problems in your child:
- Establish a regular brushing routine with your child. Let your child brush their teeth with you. Make it fun. Sing a song, buy a special toothbrush and remember to follow up your child’s brushing by taking a turn yourself.
- Visit the dentist regularly. Your child should have their first dental visit when their first tooth erupts or by their first birthday. These appointments are quick and help establish a good dental routine for yourself and your child.
- Do your best to increase healthy foods and limit sweets and sugary drinks. It is understandable that there will be sweets at parties where our kids will want to indulge. That is okay. Try to encourage your child to sip on water in between sweet snacks and sugary drinks to rinse the sugar off of the teeth.
